Dosage Guide

2-4.4 mg/kg PO once daily or divided twice daily. Start at low end of dose range and titrate to effect.

Side Effects

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Decreased appetite
  • GI ulceration (with chronic use)
  • Hepatopathy (rare but serious — Labrador Retrievers may be predisposed)

Important Warnings

  • !DO NOT use in cats — fatal idiosyncratic reactions reported
  • !Discontinue if vomiting, lethargy, or jaundice develops
  • !Requires blood work before starting and every 6 months for long-term use
  • !Use with extreme caution in dogs with pre-existing liver or kidney disease

Contraindications

Do not use this medication in the following situations:

  • Concurrent use with corticosteroids
  • Dehydrated or hypotensive patients
  • Active GI ulceration or bleeding
  • Cats (CONTRAINDICATED)
